PICKLEBALL!

Pickleball- By Natalie LeBaron

Pickleball is a very fun sport. My husband and started playing this year with other couples! I am more of tennis player, however pickleball is also great exercise and a fun sport.

A lot of people wonder where the name "Pickleball" came from.
·        According to Barney McCallum, the game was officially named after the Pritchards' dog Pickles, who would chase the ball and run off with it. According to McCallum, “The Pritchards had a dog named Pickles, and you're having fun at a party, right? So anyways, what the heck, let's just call it pickleball.

I  Here are some facts about the game:

·        Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, with 26-40 round holes, over a net
·        Scoring. A pickleball game is normally played to 11 and must be won by 2. ...
·        The Serve. The serve must be hit with an underhand swinging motion and the ball contacted below the hips. ...
·        Double Bounce Rule. When the ball is served the player on the receiving side must let the ball bounce once before hitting it. ...
·        No Volley Zone.

Playing Pickleball gives you a good aerobic workout without as much stress and strain on joints and muscles, as mentioned above. The endorphins and other bioamines that are released with all exercise are useful in elevating self-esteem and combating depression – both problems that can come with older age.
·  When you’re further back In the court, you will have to hit the ball higher and harder in order to get the pickleball back over the net. ... Do step into the kitchen to hit a ball that has bounced in the "kitchen zone". This is the only time that you can actually hit a ball while in the kitchen.
What I like most about the game is it's a fast and social game and fun to interact with friends while playing!
